Estadio Metropolitano
Estadio Metropolitano is an all-seater football stadium in Barranquilla. It is the home stadium of Atlético Junior. The stadium holds 60 000 spectators. It was built for the failed 1986 FIFA World Cup bid, which was organised by Mexico. It was inaugurated in 1986 with a game between the national football team of Uruguay and Atlético Junior, which the Uruguayans won 2-1. Atlético Junior was founded in 1924. Known as los Tiburones, the Sharks, they have won the Colombian championship several times. Atlético Junior also won the first-ever Reebok Cup in 1997, a tournament between football clubs from several continents.
