Brøndby Stadion

Brøndby Stadion is the homeground of Brøndby IF, situated in Brøndby, a town in the Metropolitan Copenhagen area. It is referred to as Vilfort Park among Brøndby IF supporters, named after club legend Kim Vilfort. Brøndby IF is one of the most popular sports clubs in Denmark. When Brøndby IF was promoted to the highest league in Danish football in 1982, concrete terraces opposite the main stand were constructed. From 1989 to 1990, the athletic track was discarded and the stadium was able to hold 10 000 people. The stadium was temporarily upgraded with scaffolding stands when Brøndby IF played in the UEFA Cup in 1990, which boosted the stadium capacity to 18 000. Brøndby IF bought the stadium from the Brøndby municipality in May 1998. When the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League, the stadium was still under construction and the games were moved to Parken. The recent capacity is 29 000, making it one of the major stadiums in the country. The rebuilt stadium was opened in October 2000 with a 4-2 victory over Akademisk Boldklub, with a packed stadium.
