Stade Geoffroy-Guichard
Stade Geoffroy-Guichard is a sports stadium in Saint-Étienne. Several matches in big football tournaments like UEFA Euro 1984, the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup were held at the stadium. It is also used for rugby union, and will be a venue at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. It is nicknamed the Cauldron, or the Green Hell, an allusion to the colours worn by the local football team, AS Saint-Étienne. The stadium opened in September 1931. It was named after Geoffroy Guichard, founder of the Casino retail group, who purchased the site on which it was built.
