Fritz-Walter-Stadion
The Fritz-Walter-Stadion is the home of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, and is located in the city of Kaiserslautern. It was also one of the stadiums to be used in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The stadium is named after the captain of the German national football team that won the 1954 FIFA World Cup, who also played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern throughout his career. The Stadium was built on the Betzenberg Hill, hence its nickname Betze, and was opened in 1920. In preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Cup renovation of the stadium took place. Before its renovation, the stadium had a capacity of 38 000. With the renovation the capacity has been increased to 48 000, of which 16 000 are standing. The expansion also included a new floodlight system and a media center.
