Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium

The Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium is the ground where Greek football giants Panathinaikos FC has played for most of the years of its existence, since its foundation back in 1908. The stadium is named after deceased club president Apostolos Nikolaidis. It is in the Ampelokipi district of Athen. The venue also houses a small basketball and volleyball court, a swimming pool and offices. The stadium holds a very important place in the history of Greek football. The first stand was built in 1928, and for almost 50 years it hosted the majority of big football matches in domestic and international competitions. It was the first to have floodlights installed and the first with a grass pitch. It was the home of the Greek national football team for many years. Panathinaikos FC left their aging stadium in 2005 for the Athens Olympic Stadium. In 2007 Panathinaikos FC decided to reuse the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium.
