Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano
Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano is a stadium in San Pedro Sula. It is currently used mostly for football matches and also has facilities for athletics. The stadium has a capacity of 40 000. It was built by Jerónimo Sandoval, also known as Chombo Sandoval, and opened in 1997.
Before leaving office, San Pedro Sula's former mayor, Oscar Kilgore, attempted to change the name of the stadium to Estadio José de la Paz Herrera, a noted Honduran football coach and the only coach to have taken Honduras to a FIFA World Cup. The move was heavily opposed by CD Marathón and eventually abandoned.
