Stadio Renzo Barbera
Stadio Renzo Barbera, also known as La Favorita, is a stadium in Palermo, the capital of Sicily. It is currently home of US Città di Palermo, the most successful football club from the island. The stadium was inaugurated in January 1932 and was named Stadio Littorio in homage to the Fascism. The opening match was between US Città di Palermo and Atalanta BC, with the home side won 5-1. A track surrounded the pitch and there were no stands behind the goals. In 1936, the stadium was renamed Stadio Michele Marrone, in memory of a soldier killed during the Spanish Civil War. Stadio Renzo Barbera was redeveloped in 1990, to be ready to host games during the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
