Feijenoord Stadion

The Feijenoord Stadion, better known by its nickname de Kuip, which means the Tub, is a stadium in Rotterdam. It is used by Feyenoord, one of the traditional top teams in the Netherlands, together with PSV Eindhoven and AFC Ajax. The Feijenoord Stadion was completed in 1937. The name of the stadium is derived from the area Feijenoord in Rotterdam. In 1973 Feijenoord decided to change their name to Feyenoord, as people from outside the Netherlands found it difficult to pronounce the ij in Feijenoord. Before they changed their name, they won the European Cup, now known as the UEFA Champions League, after defeating Scottish side Celtic FC in the final. In 2000, the Feyenoord stadium hosted the final of Euro 2000, played in the Netherlands and Belgium, with France beating Italy in extra time. The 2002 UEFA Cup final was held at the Feijenoord Stadion, in which Feyenoord defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2.
