Guus Hiddink Stadium

The Guus Hiddink Stadium is a football stadium in Gwangju. Initially the stadium was named Gwangju World Cup Stadium to host some matches of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. To honor the coach of the South Korean national football team Guus Hiddink, who helped the team advance to the semi-finals of the tournament by defeating Spain, they renamed it after him. The Dutch trainer was also successful with Australia, the Netherlands and Russia. With Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven he became European champions in 1988 and won several national championships. With Real Madrid CF he won the Intercontinental Cup. The Guus Hiddink Stadium is the home stadium of Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix of the K-League and has a capacity of 44 000, making it the largest stadium in Gwangju.
