Estadio Anoeta

Estadio Anoeta is a multi-use stadium in San Sebastián. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Real Sociedad. For many years, Real Sociedad followed the practice of their Basque rivals Athletic Club de Bilbao of signing only Basque players. They abandoned the policy in 1989 when they signed Irish international John Aldridge from Liverpool FC. In recent years, the stadium has also been used occasional for Heineken Cup rugby union matches by nearby French rugby club Biarritz Olympique. Estadio Anoeta, which holds 32 000, was built in 1993. It is one of the major stadiums in the Basque Country.
