Estadio San Mamés
Estadio San Mamés, also known as La Catedral, is a football stadium in Bilbao. It is the home of Athletic Club de Bilbao, known as the Lions of San Mamés. They are known as the Lions because their stadium was built near a church called San Mamés. Mamés was an early Christian thrown to the lions by the Romans. The story goes that the lions refused to eat Mamés and he was later made a saint. The stadium
opened in 1913 and it was almost completely rebuilt to host matches in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. The recent capacity of Estadio San Mamés is 39 000.
