It is known as El Templo Sagrado del Fútbol, The Sacred Temple of Football, because it is the stadium where Venezuela has gotten some of its best football results, and it lies in the typically football-loving Andes region. Some matches of the 2007 Copa América were held at the stadium, including a quarter final match between Venezuela and Uruguay, which Uruguay won 4-1.
