Liberty Stadium

The Liberty Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Swansea. The stadium is all-seated, council owned, and has a maximum capacity of 20 000, making it the largest stadium in Swansea. The Liberty Stadium is one of the largest stadiums in Wales. The opening match was a game between Swansea City AFC and Fulham FC in July 2005. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. During its building, a variety of names were suggested for it. White Rock Stadium was one of those names, after the copper works of the same name which existed on the site. While a sponsor was being sought for the stadium, it was called New Stadium. A statue of Ivor Allchurch was erected outside the stadium before a league match with Oldham Athletic AFC. It was to commemorate the Swansea-born star who during two spells for Swansea City AFC scored 164 goals in 445 appearances. The stadium is also used for rugby matches and concerts.
